A new Gallup survey shows Democrats are turning more toward socialism while losing confidence in capitalism, continuing a trend that has reshaped the party’s economic identity over the past decade and a half.
The poll, conducted August 1–20 among 1,094 US adults, found that 66% of Democrats now view socialism positively, compared with just 42% who say the same of capitalism. The shift is striking when measured against 2010, when half of Democrats held a favorable view of socialism and a majority still embraced capitalism.
Gallup noted that the Democratic shift is driving much of the overall decline in Americans’ support for capitalism. Nationwide, 54% of US adults said they view capitalism favorably, down from 61% in 2010. Meanwhile, independents’ support for capitalism also slipped over the same period, from 61% to 51%.
The rise in positive sentiment toward socialism among Democrats reflects a steady, long-term change. Fifteen years ago, capitalism maintained a commanding edge over socialism within the party.
Today, the reverse is true, with socialism holding a clear majority and capitalism falling into minority support among Democrats. Therefore, the interchangeable use of “Democrats” and “Socialists” becomes more apropos.
Republicans, by contrast, remain overwhelmingly supportive of capitalism and sharply critical of socialism, continuing a deep partisan divide on the issue of “communism-light.”
The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
Unfortunately for Democrats the way they’ve built their party the fringe elements are the party. Not long ago normal everyday Americans made up the leadership and average Democrat, since the extremists on the fringe were allowed to push their agenda and seize control of the party they’ve abandoned these normal everyday Americans in search of a woke standard that is by definition unachievable. The Democrat Party has become the 20-80 party in which they support causes that, at most, 20% of the American public supports while 80% want nothing to do with. Senator Tim Kaine (who ran for Vice President with Hillary Clinton) recently admitted he had no idea about the founding of this nation when he said “The notion that rights don’t come from laws and don’t come from the government, but come from the Creator, that’s what the Iranian government believes,” he went on to say “It’s a theocratic regime that bases its rule on Shia law and targets Sunnis, Bahá’ís, Jews, Christians and other religious minorities.” And he followed that up with “And they do it because they believe that they understand what natural rights are from their Creator,” just to confirm hiw extreme his views are he said “So, the statement that our rights do not come from our laws or our governments is extremely troubling.” This is the Democrat Party and the American left.
