On Sept. 7, I made the difficult but necessary decision to leave Must Read Alaska. After founding it in 2015 and a decade of reporting and commentary there, differences with the new owner over the direction of political news coverage made it clear that it was time to move on.
I started fresh with suzannedowning.com. It’s still in its early days, and the working title is just that — a placeholder until the full vision comes to life. Launching a new site is no small task, and I’m putting in the hours to get it right. The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and I cannot thank you enough for your encouragement, patience, and loyalty.
Because of a non-compete clause that relates to Alaska topics, I won’t be covering Alaska-centric news on this site until the first week of November. That said, big plans are already in motion. The next few weeks is about national issues, working out the bugs, testing the platform, and laying the foundation for a new space where Alaska conservatives can connect, learn, and prepare for the critical debates ahead.
The 2026 election cycle is already taking shape, and by the time the non-compete expires, there will be plenty to cover. I look forward to returning to the beat I love, stronger and freer than ever.
In the meantime, it’s been a great two weeks and I’m absolutely energized and invigorated. You can help by spreading the word. Share the site with friends, family, and colleagues who want to stay informed and engaged. The next chapter is coming together quickly, and I’m excited to take this journey with you. I saw the strife coming when you made the announcement to sell Must Read Alaska telling Who was taking control
This state of Alaska and Republican Party is full of big government dependent leaders and liberals who are deceived to think they are not a Democrat because they say they are a Republican.
It’s comforting to hear when Charlie Kirk first started out and attended the RNC he faced problems with them but he never let their discourage him that he retreated into obscurity. Because there are even a lot of Republicans in name only and one can’t even look at the AK Republican Party and see its political ideology difference between itself and Democrats or big government dependent leaders versus small government leaders.
Keep up the good work Suzanne. We are supporting you all the way
You go girl!
My gosh, how I admire your dedication, your zeal and your energy for rooting out and reporting stories, Suzanne, particularly those that the other, mostly left-wing, local establishmentarian media sources refuse to touch. I mean, what a narrow and twisted viewpoint one would have if they had to rely only on the Anchorage Daily Spews and the Fairbanks Nose Miner for their news. You are a much needed voice in the radical leftist wilderness. Thank you and kudos for all that you do!
Go Suzanne!
You got this and we will stay with you.
Go Suzanne. You Rock!
Thank you your patience with my poor English and often conflicting opinions. what at first glance may seem outrageous thought.
I appreciate your respect for alternate viewpoints.
You do an amazing job of shining light on world events.
Thanks for not leaving us.
Learn from and remember the good things from the past, but it’s water under the bridge now. Look forward with hope. Keep up the great work, you’re a talented writer and journalist, and I’m glad I found you freelancing here.
Glad to have found this site from your Eric Stone interview – which I only found after sleuthing on substack and pledging to your new site there, if and when it gets going.
We have MISSED your news for the past few weeks!

Thanks. Appreciate your support. – sd
Moving over with you. You covered Alaska issues no one else would. Now shake up the GOP state apparatus into something resembling at least moderate stances and a backbone to stand up to the people like Stutes, Merrick and Murkowski.
