Breaking: Former FBI Director Comey indicted for false statements to Congress

Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia on two felony counts: making a false statement to Congress and obstruction of justice.

The indictment stems from Comey’s Sept. 30, 2020, testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible ties to Donald Trump’s campaign.

Prosecutors allege Comey falsely denied authorizing leaks of sensitive information related to investigations involving Trump and Hillary Clinton, contradicting statements from his then-deputy Andrew McCabe and findings in a 2018 Justice Department Inspector General report.

The charges come just days before the five-year statute of limitations would have expired on Sept. 30. Comey is expected to be arraigned in the coming days. His legal team has not yet commented publicly.

A grand jury returned an indictment against Comey. Bondi and new FBI Director Kash Patel issued statements emphasizing accountability andTrump celebrated the charges on social media, calling Comey “one of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to.”

Bondi said the indictment reflects the Justice Department’s “commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable.” Patel posted on X that past FBI leadership had been “corrupt” and praised the charges as overdue accountability.

  1. Will be shocking if he actually does any ‘time’ for his transgressions. It seems as if only conservatives suffer consequences (rightfully or wrongly).

  2. Finally ! Justice is being served .
Why not ? It’s the only way.
But then there is this problem.
Of Sanctuary Cities and whole Sanctuary States , and their stubborn asssembly mayors and even GOVERNORS ! 😧

  3. “Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon the stage, / And then is heard no more. / It is a tale / Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, / Signifying nothing”.

Alas, like Macbeth, Hans is probably correct.

  4. Getting a Grand Jury to return an Indictment is generally not difficult. The prosecution presents an abbreviated version of their case and any evidence that is plainly in the Defendant’s favor and then asks the members of the GJ to return a “ true bill”. It does not require a unanimous vote and it is extremely unusual for the GJ to not indict. And since the Defendant is not present there generally is little of any evidence in favor of the Defendant presented.
We used to joke about how we could indict a loaf of bread if we wanted.
That is not to say that Comey should not have been indicted or is not going to be found guilty. From what is out there it seems that the evidence is definitely pointing towards guilt. But remember, it only takes one juror to prevent a guilty finding. And with the political posture in today’s world I think it will be difficult to get a unanimous verdict in this case. Especially if the case is tried in Washington DC

  5. A better quote than Macbeth:

This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

While it’s a good gesture, it will prove, sadly, a waste of our (government) resources.
