Albertsons, Safeway, Carrs impacted by recall of certain deli products due to listeria

Albertsons Companies has issued a voluntary recall of select store-made deli items across several Western states due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall affects five deli products sold under the Albertsons family of stores, including Albertsons, Albertsons Market, Amigos, Andronico’s Community Markets, Carrs-Safeway, Eagle, Pak ‘N Save, Pavilions, Market Street, Randalls, Safeway, Tom Thumb, and Vons.

Affected states include Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy people may experience only short-term symptoms such as fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea, infections can be especially dangerous for pregnant women, sometimes resulting in miscarriages or stillbirths.

The FDA warns that Listeria can survive in refrigerated environments and may spread easily to other foods and surfaces. Consumers are advised to clean and sanitize any areas or containers that may have come into contact with recalled products to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Ready Meals Basil Pesto Bowtie Salad (UPC: 29130800000, sold Sept. 18–29, 2025, at Carrs-Safeway, Eagle, and Safeway stores)
