Federal agents trapped and rammed by cars near Chicago, a driver shot; Portland anarchists rumble

Department of Homeland Security officials say US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol personnel were rammed and “boxed in” by as many as 10 vehicles Saturday morning near the agency’s processing facility in Broadview, a suburb of Chicago, touching off a chaotic confrontation. A woman who was armed was shot and later drove herself to a hospital for treatment.

The Department of Homeland Security’s assistant secretary for public affairs, Tricia McLaughlin, wrote on X that agents conducting routine patrols were surrounded and struck by vehicles; agents were “unable to move their vehicles and exited the car,” she wrote, and “one of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon.” DHS said agents fired defensive shots during the incident. No DHS officers were reported to have been seriously injured.

DHS and multiple news outlets reported that the woman who was shot has been identified in a Customs and Border Protection intelligence bulletin alleging she had previously doxxed federal officers and posted online calls for violence against them.

The incident came amid days of escalating protests outside the Broadview ICE facility and an intensifying federal operation in Chicago.

A crowd had been growing near the scene over recent days and that the department was deploying special operations personnel to secure the area. President Donald Trump authorized the federalization of 300 Illinois National Guard troops, a step Governor J.B. Pritzker condemned as politically motivated and unnecessary.

Local law enforcement’s role was a point of contention. In her post, McLaughlin said Chicago police “refuse[d] to assist us in securing the area,” while Pritzker issued rejected what he described as an “ultimatum” from the federal government about National Guard deployment and said local authorities had been providing enough safety around the facility.

Federal officials are calling attention to risks their personnel face while carrying out immigration enforcement operations in heavily protested areas.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the department would deploy additional personnel and vowed prosecution of anyone who attacks federal officers — language that is being echoed across official DHS social media posts. The agency and the president has begun to label the violent protesters “anarchists” rather than “Antifa,” which is a pivot in approach.

In Portland, federal agents are getting tough and making prompt arrests of the Antifa and anarchists who have been besieging the ICE facility night after night for months.

Sec. Noem wrote: “Our brave men and women of law enforcement are being targeted and attacked by violent anarchists who seek to tear down America. I want each and every member of law enforcement to know this: President Trump and I have your backs. “Stand with ICE as they continue to protect and defend our homeland.”

DHS wrote on X: “@Sec_Noem will hunt down EVERY deranged anarchist who attacks our law enforcement:”

Meanwhile on Saturday, a federal judge granted an order to block Trump from activating the National Guard to Portland, as riots continue in a city and state that is run by Democrats who refuse to bring law and order. The ruling will be appealed to the Ninth Circuit.

  1. Too many years getting away with unmitigated street violence; the DBs are feeling invincible. Spending time in lockup and ‘earning’ a criminal record that will follow them for the rest of their lives is a happy ending to this story.

    1. Obviously certain very rich individuals have doubled down picking up the tab for these paid terrorist. The USAID piggy bank has curtailed some flow of the money but not all.
