President Donald Trump has appointed longtime aide Dan Scavino to lead the White House Presidential Personnel Office, the powerful division responsible for vetting and selecting thousands of political appointees across the federal government.
Scavino, who will retain his role as Deputy Chief of Staff, succeeds Sergio Gor, whom Trump has nominated to serve as US Ambassador to India.
“I am pleased to announce that the great Dan Scavino, in addition to remaining Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, will head the White House Presidential Personnel Office, replacing Sergio Gor, who did a wonderful job in that position, and will now become the Ambassador to India,” Trump wrote early Sunday on TruthSocial. “Dan will be responsible for the selection and appointment of almost all positions in government, a very big and important position. Congratulations Dan, you will do a fantastic job!”
Scavino, one of Trump’s closest and longest-serving aides, has been a fixture in the administration since its early days. He previously served as White House Director of Social Media during Trump’s first term and has remained a key figure in communications strategy and digital outreach.
Scavino has traveled to Alaska several times, most recently accompanying Trump to Anchorage for a high-profile summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. He documented the trip extensively on X, posting videos of Air Force One’s departure from Washington, its arrival in Alaska, the motorcade at the base, and the wheels-up departure following extended closed-door talks.
He was also in Alaska with Trump in 2019 and visited Anchorage on a personal trip in 2022.
The personnel office Scavino now leads is central to the administration’s effort to reshape federal agencies in line with Trump’s “America First” agenda, ensuring alignment and loyalty among appointees throughout government.
