The US economy grew faster than expected in the second quarter, according to revised government data released Thursday, fueled largely by consumer spending and business investment.
The Commerce Department reported that real gross domestic product expanded at an annual rate of 3.8% between April and June, up from a previous estimate of 3.3% and initial reports of 3%. The figure exceeded Wall Street forecasts, which had projected growth to hold at 3.3%, according to FactSet.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis said the revision was driven by stronger household consumption and an increase in gross private fixed investment. Real final sales to domestic purchasers, a key measure of demand, rose 2.9%, compared with earlier estimates of 1.9%.
The surge represents a sharp turnaround from the first quarter, when GDP contracted by 0.5%, the weakest period for the economy since 2022 as businesses had struggled with shifting supply chains as President Donald Trump’s tariffs on foreign goods took effect.
Critics of Trump’s trade policies warned that tariffs would trigger a sustained slowdown, with some economists predicting recessionary pressures.
Instead, the second-quarter data shows resilience, with consumers continuing to spend and companies investing in new capacity domestically.
“…some economists predicting recessionary pressures”.
Only a fool believes anything an economist says.
This report doesnt reflect the narrative Rebecca Palsha is trying to convince Alaskans that Dan Sullivan is responsible for tariffs he voted for that created all the higher prices of goods we have to pay for.
Dont tell me the media employees are on the take for telling lies.
Please say it isnt so.

The critics are more likely reflecting those who built their personal wealth getting rich off government. Of course a government dependent is critical when they personally are losing money.
For everyone else not government dependent (the majority) we are starting to see more money slowly coming back to us after living through 4years under Biden Administration.
